Some writers remain members for many years. Others join for a while and then leave because they’ve moved away, finished their book or are no longer free on Thursday evenings.  Here are some of our current and former members. You can find out about their books and other writing on their websites.

Andrea EmblinAndrea Emblin
Andrea Emblin writes historical fiction and her debut novel, Lady Hartley’s Husbands, was published by Fantastic Books Publishing in 2023. One of her short stories has been published in the Wight Writers’ anthology, In Black and Wight, and she has illustrated a children’s poetry book, Word Gymnastics, by Ellen Weeks. She continues to write for Wessex Writers’ e-magazine, The Voice, and enjoys writing short stories and fiction for young adults.

Emily Gillatt-Ball
Emily writes family history, memoirs, poetry and short stories. Her first novel, written for NaNoWriMo, is currently under revision, and she is now working on a historical romance set on the Isle of Wight.

Diana KimptonDiana Kimpton
Diana is the author of more than 40 books for children as well as several for adults and some scripts. She specialises in pony books and has also written a book about plotting.

Graham LascellesGraham Lascelles
A lifelong professional mariner, Graham writes mainly about sailing, together with some political comment. He has had articles published in the international  yachting press and has an e-book on Amazon,   All I ask is a tall ship. This covers the design, self build, and circumnavigation of his yacht, Global Surveyor. His website has videos about this and other nautical miscellany.

Mari (Jan)Mari Nicholson
Mari is a former short story writer turned travel writer for national magazines and newspapers. She now writes mainly for web magazines and blogs about travel and related subjects, posting both text and photographs.

felicityFelicity Fair Thompson
Felicity is a novelist, screenwriter and film maker, writing and producing fourteen documentary films, and an EU funded community play. She teaches Creative Writing and her published writing includes two children’s stories, scenic travel features, theatre reviews, award winning poetry, personality profiles, and three novels.

Yvonne is the author of a number of articles about the current state of education published online by the Times Educational Supplement and in The English Association’s journal. She has written several novels in genres from gothic family saga to comedy and is now writing radio plays.

Jude Davison
Jude is a musician/recording artist with 20 critically acclaimed albums; songs licensed to TV shows (Baywatch); and his music has featured in films and on radio around the world. Recently turning his creative attention to prose, he is the author of 4 books.

Julie Watson
Julie joined Wight Writers in 2016 after retiring from academia, where she published extensively in her field. In 2021, Beachy Books published her first book of creative nonfiction, Travel Mementos. She is now working on a second collection of travel stories and a humorous tale about living with a cat.

GlenysGlenys Lloyd-Williams
Glenys prefers to write short stories on a wide variety of topics. She is currently getting to grips with a children’s picture book and hopes to complete a medieval play at some point.

Mary writes woman’s fiction, usually stories about a woman at a significant point in her life. To date she has self published two novels and two books of short stories.

Fran Heath is the author of coming-of-age novel, Pencil Lead, and author/illustrator of her picture book, How We Choose to Play.

phyllisPhyllis Goodwin
Phyllis wrote historical fiction. Her first self-published novel, Cry for me Argentina, was inspired by a true story. She also wrote a collection of short stories and two dog books about, a rare breed, the Field Spaniel.  Sadly Phyllis died in 2012, but her writing lives on.
